IN MEMORY

Kathleen Nicholson (Bovo)

Kathleen Nicholson (Bovo)

KATHLEEN NICHOLSON BOVO
St. George, UT – Kathleen Nicholson Bovo, 71, passed away at home on May 3, 2022, in St. George, UT, surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 9, 1950, to Colin Nicholson and Sarah (Sally) Pearce, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married, the love of her life, Rich Bovo on May 12, 1990. They were sealed for all eternity in her favorite temple, the Manti Temple.
Kathleen was the oldest daughter of seven, with one older brother and five younger siblings, three of whom passed on ahead of her. She was raised in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, Utah, living in the same home from kindergarten until her graduation from Highland High School. While in elementary school, she was part of a Russian speaking pilot program which she immensely enjoyed, as she always enjoyed learning about other cultures. Singing in her school and church choir groups brought great joy to Kathleen's life, as she always found her daily motivation and peace in uplifting music.
Her mother demonstrated the value in serving others as a nurse and Kathleen followed in her mother's footsteps, graduating from BYU's Nursing Program in 1972. For the next 40 years she selflessly served others as a Med-Surg RN and then as a Home Health Nurse, for as long as her health would permit. Being a nurse always brought her great happiness and she considered it to be on of the greatest achievements of her lifetime, along with her 35 years of service, as a member of the Society of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ, was the foundation for how Kathleen chose to live her life each day. Sharing her testimony with others came easily because of her genuine and unrelenting love of the Savior and his gospel. She strived each day to follow in his footsteps by serving others, even when her health failed her. Her unconditional, Christlike love touched the lives of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to cross her path.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Rich Bovo; and her three children: Melinda Adams, Amy Perkins, and David Marrott. Her posterity includes nine grandchildren and three, soon to be four, great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by five stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and three siblings.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sun River 4th Branch Building, 1483 W. Angel Arch Drive, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and Saturday, prior to services, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah.

It was mentioned in Kathleen's obituary about her participation in the Russian language pilot program. So we were in the same 10th grade Russian class at HH. Interesting that it was so meaningful to her that her family was not only aware of it but talked about it here. I'm glad to know that experience was memorable for her as it was for me. The Russian language-learning students all started in our various elementary schools in 4th grade, going early to school and/or staying after school for our lessons.
There are so many things of interest that we might never know about our classmates. This is one I now know about Kathleen.

Wonderful tribute to Kathleen. I had the privilege to work with her for several years at the hospital. She was a kind, kind person and a great nurse. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Last Thursday I was saddened to learn that Kathleen Nicholson Bovo had passed away. Kathleen sat by me my senior year in Mrs. Scanland's English class. I enjoyed talking with her, and she was the first girl I ever dated. Although I enjoyed high school, I have unfortunately not kept up with high school friends and classmates. With that in mind, it was especially nice of Kathleen to reach out and share a number of events and memories with me on the Highland High School website that had largely been forgotten on my part. Some years ago on a trip to St. George, my wife and I enjoyed having dinner with Kathleen and her husband in a local restaurant. It was a pleasure to see her again and to meet her husband. Kathleen was indeed a wonderful woman who will be remembered fondly by her husband, family, and many of her Highland High School classmates.  Ed Ogilvie

It is so hard to say goodbye to such a close friend.  Today (June 9) is Kathleen's birthday, which means that we would have been talking on the phone and catching up.

We met in the fourth grade when that after-school Russian language program started and those of us from Rosslyn Heights were carpooled over to Grandview 2 or 3 times a week.  As that continued throughout the grades, we became devoted friends and created a club called The Pipsqueek Club.  It was a really great club.  We two were the only members.

As years went on Shannon Trevers Hansen became a part of our get-togethers.  There is really nothing like dear friends that have known you for so long.

Kathleen was so brave and kind with such a giving heart.  I miss her so much.

Kathleen and I grew up together on Crystal Avenue.  She was one of my closest friends as a child, and I was so happy when we reconnected over the last several years.  We shared so many childhood memories as well as sharing our joys and challenges in life.   She was able to help me through some personal challenges with her wisdom and experience.  I will truly miss her.
