Blaine's Obituary

Blaine Grant Hastings 12/14/55 ~ 12/1/05 On December 1, 2005 Blaine Grant Hastings was welcomed home by family and loved ones, a very special birthday present for his beloved dad who had preceded him in death. He will be truly missed by those he left behind. Blaine was born December 14, 1955 in Salt Lake City, UT to Eugene G. and Mary S. Hastings. He later graduated from Olympus High School. From a young age he showed a talent and love for the arts. He enjoyed singing and performing and appeared in several local productions, including: Fiddler on the Roof, Shenandoah, The Mikado, and Promise Valley. After graduating from Weber State College in December 1979 he went on to teach 3rd grade at Backman Elementary for 20 years, where he touched the lives of many students with his heart and enthusiasm. He brightened the lives of his students through music and plays he added to other classroom activities. Blaine fought a valiant battle with Diabetes for most of his life, and attended Diabetic Camp as both a camper and a counselor. We will remember him as a loving son, a loyal friend and a gentle spirit. Our family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center for the attentive care he received. Survivors include his mother, Mary (Smith) Hastings, Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Bruce (Janice) Hastings, West Valley City, Utah; Alan (Linda) Hastings, Logan, Utah; three nieces, four nephews and six grand-nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Eugene G. Hastings; and nephew, Aaron. Funeral services for Blaine will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Canyon Rim Stake Center, 3051 South 2900 East, Salt Lake City, UT.
