John Reed Stewart

1949 - 2020

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, John Reed Stewart (a.k.a Papa John), passed away October 17, 2020 doing what he loved best, serving his children.

John was born July 19, 1949 to Garn L. Stewart and Bonnye Faye Reed. He was married to his beloved wife Shelley Brimhall for 50 years. Together, they have 5 children, Justin (Heather) Stewart, Jodi (Branden) Kuehne, Heidi (Zachary) Slater, Lance (Angie) Stewart, and Brock (Holly) Stewart, and 19 loved grandchildren.

John was a talented carpenter, building and fixing his children’s homes. He worked as a firefighter engineer and EMT for Salt Lake County Fire and Unified Fire Department for 31 years. He was nicknamed “Jaws” because he could out eat anyone, yet always maintained a fit body. He was the quintessential “first responder” in all aspects of his life, being the first on the scene whenever there was an emergency or a need.

John loved boating, surfing and towing the kids on the tube. He loved being outdoors and with family doing any kind of activity, and especially enjoyed his time with the grandkids. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he loved and had faith in His Savior, Jesus Christ, and lived every day in preparation to meet Him.
