Ms. Gundersen - A Tribute Posted Sunday, February 5, 2012 12:31 AM Bonnie Gundersen (Webber) had a lasting effect on me. I will never forget the "talk" we had after she'd finally had enough with my coming into choir late (making a grand entrance each time). She pulled me into her office and, with the entire choir watching through the glass partition, ripped me up one side and down the other. I don't remember coach Schmidt ever getting my attention like she did! I ended up taking voice lessons from her when I returned from my mission, and later had the opportunity of signing for 20 years in the Tabernacle Choir. Many teachers influenced me, but none like Ms. Gundersen - I will always be grateful to her. |

RE: Ms. Gundersen - A Tribute Posted Sunday, September 16, 2012 03:36 PM Although I didn't get 'reamed' in her office in front of the whole class, Miss Gunderson DID have a great impression on me too. I had Ariel Bybee ( a brand new choir teacher, later to become a Met Opera singer) as my ninth grade choir teacher, then Bonnie Gunderson in high school. The two of them started a great love of music in my heart. Like Todd, I was fortunate to later join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, which has been a huge blessing for almost 20 years now! Yay for inspirational choir teachers! Fay Ottley Croxford |

RE: Ms. Gundersen - A Tribute Posted Tuesday, April 12, 2022 10:56 AM Between Miss Bybee and Ms. Gunderson,I learned everything I could about music. I can't tell you how much respect I had for Ms. Gunderson. I was like a sponge in her class. She could have told me to cllimb up the walls and I would have tried. Since I left Utah, I have been in every choir that was available. Because of her training, my sight reading is wonderful and I owe it to her. I also was in an 16th century dinner theater and the music was very difficult. However, I was very well prepared for it. Music teachers are not the same now. I suppose they can't be. She put up with NOTHING! I'm sure I will never forget the structure and hard work that she taught me. I'm very grateful for her. I'm in a tremendous Easter program on Sunday, April 17, 2022. I play the bells and we have have a partial orchestra accompanying us. I wish you'all could be there!!!!! Thank you Ms.Gunderson , for everything you did for me!!! |
