A Short Tribute to Linda Bailey (Ogden)

As some of you may be aware, our dear friend and classmate Linda Bailey (Ogden, et al) died the 19th of October.

On October 4th Linda’s leg was amputated and although she regained consciousness and was very positive about her future, her condition spiraled downward and finally out of control.

Linda was involved, energetic, sarcastic at times, and very smart.  She expected perfection from herself but accepted everyone else without judgement.

Because she planned to be a journalist, Linda was very involved with the South High Scribe where she served as News Editor.  In a time when girls were somewhat rare in debate, she represented South as one of the dreaded “babes in black”.  She was Vice President in Pep Club, sang with the Capella choir, and served as an officer in the French Club.  In addition, Linda was acknowledged for Honors at Entrance.  She is pictured, I’m sure by chance, on the cover of our senior yearbook.

Linda’s most loved husband, Albert, passed away a few years ago and she leaves no children.  There are dozens of us who will think of her always.  Her beloved dogs continue to wait for her return.

No obituary has been published; no services are planned.  However, several of her friends intend to create a written memorial.  We would love to include any memories you would like to

share.  Copies will be made available to anyone interested.

Sad, sad, sad. I hope Linda's long time close friends will be able together a fitting memorial tribute of some kind for her.

Dear Linda,

You were one of my favorites in Mrs. Zarr’s 7th period Scribe class. You were smart, you were fun, and you were a dedicated, responsible page editor for South High’s newspaper. When you went on to major in journalism at the University of Utah, I wasn’t surprised. Later in life I was told by another smart woman journalist that everyone needs a good editor. Amen to that observation, to which I would add: Everyone should be fortunate enough to have a good and true friend like you. I only regret that we lost contact in the years after graduation from high school but am glad that we were able to get reacquainted in more recent times. Thank you for reading and commenting on some of my and my brother Gary’s recent manuscript drafts. Your encouragement was greatly appreciated. You will be much missed in the lives of old friends, as well as by members of your family. Rest in peace, sweet Linda.

We found an obituary for Linda at mcdougalfuneralhomes.com.  Nothing much new in it.  We loved having her in our lunch group, if only for a few months.
