Grace H. Healy (Teacher)

Grace Hogan Healy died August 1, 1998 of natural causes at Fairfax Nursing Center in Fairfax, Virginia

She was born November 20, 1901 in Aspen, CO, where her father was a State Senator and engaged in mining. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1906.She earned a Masters degree at the University of Southern California and did post-graduate work at the National University of Mexico in the early 1920's. She taught Latin at East High School in Salt Lake City and was on the Modern Language faculty of the University of Utah where she taught Spanish for more than 20 years. After retiring from the University, she joined the faculty of South High School to teach Spanish and English.

Her late husband was Ignatius Bernard"Barney" Healy, Intermountain Zone Manager of General Motors Truck and Coach Division and later an account executive with J.A. Hogle and Merrill Lynch brokerage houses.

Her later sister, Ethel Hogan Heinz Merrill, was a well known organist and composer in the Intermountain West.

Grace and Barney Healy moved to McLean, VA, in 1978 where Mrs. Healy was a member of St. John's and St. Luke's Senior groups and active in the Lewinsville Senior Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Mary Ellen Healy Weber, an executive with the US Environmental Protection Agency and her son-in-law, Dr. Stephen F. Weber, senior economist with the US National Institute for Standards and Technology with whom she lived until shortly before her death.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5, at St. Luke Catholic Church, McLean Virginia. Committal services were August 6th at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
