Stanford A. Bates, age 64, passed away on May 6, 2013, in San Antonio. He was a
retired engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad and Amtrak.
Stan worked with his good friend
Ron Herndon in Ron's photography business for a number of
years. He enjoyed traveling to the mountains in Colorado and
Montana, as well as going to the Gulf coast. He enjoyed
cooking and was a sports enthusiast. He will be missed by his
loving family and his many lifelong friends. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Stanley and Virginia Green Bates,
and his sister, Lahonna Drane. Stan is survived by his daughter, Marla
J. Bates; son, Mack Melancon and wife Lara; daughter, Jessica Schiller
and husband Adam four grandchildren, Bailey, Hailee, mason and Ansley;
half-brother, Don Morgan;
half-sister, Carolynn Wallwork; niece, Helen Lacey and husband Mike; uncle,
E.J. Smith; and cousins, Dick and Lavonda Norrod.
Memorial Service, Monday, May 13, 2013, 10:00a.m., Porter Loring North Chapel
Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
