REUNION UPDATE: Financials and Future Plans; New Facebook Group

December 2024

----SCROLL PAST THE BLANK AREA----

The Class of 1974 Reunion Committee agreed to act with transparency in the handling of funds to meet the goals of the reunion and the establishment of activities to honor Robin Boldt, our Senior Class President and the touchstone for our reunion activities over the years.  Here is the report of activities and plans to date.

    1.  Funds to date:

              Total raised           $10,770

              Costs of reunion    $ 4,344

              Balance                  $ 6,526

     2.  Future expenditures:

          a.   The Reunion Committee committed to creating a memorial for Robin Boldt at John Marshall.  A concrete bench and tree were planned for the Marshall campus, and during our campus tour, it was announced that a location in the older remaining section of the campus would be the site of the memorial bench.

          b.  In light of the memorial donations so far, two additional memorial projects for Robin have been approved:

                 i.  Herbert Boldt Elementary School (named for Robin's father) requested a memorial item such as a plaque and a tree placed on the campus in honor of  Robin.

ii.  Cheryl Boldt, Robin's sister, suggested a memorial item such as a tree for Oxford Methodist, Robin's church home.

          c.  The class and generous donors have raised approximately $1700 to fund these memorials.  An additional $500 is needed to complete these projects and we are soliciting a few more donations.  Since we have closed the post office box, please send your donation (check or money order) to Joan Allen, 3103 Sasparilla Cove, Austin, Texas 78748.  If you have any questions, you can contact Joan at johoallen@gmail.com.

          d.  During the group's tour of the Marshall campus, Principal Richard Halle responded to the group's inquiry about recognizing the staff with a gift from the Class of 1974.  He suggested providing gift cards that staff leaders could use for snacks and other items for the employees' "de-stress lounge."  We will donate $500 to recognize staff prior to the holidays.

     3.  Plans for Future Reunions:

          a.  Next year is the 75th anniversary of the establishment of John Marshall High School (formerly Northside High School).  Given the interest in our 50th reunion, the Reunion Committee is exploring a way for our class to participate.  Some funding may be required.

          b.  The Reunion Committee needs to have accessible funds for the planning and pre-payment of costs for next year and for our 55th reunion prior to receiving ticket sales.

          c.  Our bank account is interest-bearing but the rate is less than one-quarter of a percent.  We can place the bulk of our unencumbered funds in an interest-bearing certificate of deposit of +/- four percent (depending on offered returns) for one year.  This will increase the funds we have available for class activities.

          d.  We will keep approximately $1000 in our checking account and place the remainder into a one-year certificate of deposit (approximately $4300, assuming we finish funding the memorial projects).

     4.  A Facebook group has been established for our class: JMHS Class of 1974 News and Events.  We will be sending our invitations to join, but feel free to find the group and request to join and we will will sign you up.  We hope to figure out how to post the reunion photos as well.

     5.  You can reach us on the Facebook page or through Classcreator.com (click on the link in this message).

Thanks to all who attended the 50th Reunion and for making donations.  It was a great time. Go, Rams, go!
