I decided to go to Cuesta after high school, since I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I worked at Hobee's for several years, eventually becoming the big GM when I was 20. Despite plans to make a go of it as a restauranteur the owner sold the place to someone else and forgot to tell me (the only satisfaction being that it closed a few years later), so I went back to school at Cal Poly and graduated in 1997. After a stint working for AmeriCorps I ended up in grad school at UCSB and finally finished the tortured path to my PhD in 2007. Then came a frozen winter working at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and now I'm at the National Institutes of Health working on a project with the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Since I'm writing this on their time I should probably get back to work.
