Travis Brown
1972-1993

Travis was killed when a train struck his car. The accident happened at the railroad crossing coming from the Mormon Institute of Religion next to the Cal Poly football stadium. There was a stop sign (which unfortunately most people ignored), but no crossing lights or gate. There was a line of cars exiting the parking lot after a dance.  Travis's car happened to be the one on tracks when the train came through.  There was no safety gate or light at that crossing in 1993.  Over the years there have been a half dozen more fatalities at that crossing and due to a lot of pressure to families that lost loved ones there, they finally put up a light and a safety gate.
