Monte Smith

LOOMIS

Monte Smith Loomis passed away on January 9, 2009 in Reno following a massive stroke. He was born on July 30, 1950 in Oakland, CA, to Alexander B. Loomis and Fay Bernice Smith Loomis. He graduated from Terra Linda High School in Marin County and moved to Reno in 1978, where he worked as a handyman in the printing business. His interests included drawing, reading science fiction, video games, astronomy, and his great love, music. He was a member of the Reno astronomy club and spoke to schoolchildren at "star parties" about the constellations. He was in the process of writing a book and sold his artwork at Artown through WARC's Beauty without Borders Art Show.

He was employed at the Riverside Century Theater as a ticket taker and had many friends there, both co-workers and frequent theater-goers. For the last ten years he was a beloved member of the performing group of The Note-Ables, a musical organization for people with disabilities, and he never missed a gig or rehearsal. He played percussion, guitar, and bass, and helped with sound and stage management. Monte was a wonderful musician, a devoted friend, and an awesome band mate; he will be deeply missed. Many thanks to the CICU nurses at St. Mary's hospital for their heartfelt compassion during a difficult time.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, brother, Steven A. Loomis, sister-in-law Margo Loomis, and friends who were as close to him as family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Janauary 16, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 435 Stoker, Reno 89503. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the Note-Ables, P.O. Box 428, Sparks, NV, 89432
