Gaylen was my elementary school classmate at Nova Albion, though we were not close as adolescents.
He was the first 'hapa' kid (half-Chinese, half-European) I knew. This was exotic in white bread Marin County, and I've never forgot his naming after the classic Greek physician.
An interesting thread, is that I am now the father of a beautiful hapa son.
Memories do seem to extend his life which ended too early.
