Hugh Taylor
1-13-43 - 6-18-13
Life Long Resident of Santa Clara
Hugh lost his battle to regain his health after a routine hip replacement. During the weeks in the hospital, he suffered more setbacks than successes until he was too weak to fight anymore. Hugh is survived by his loving wife Linda of 45 years, his 4 children, Lisa, Shawn, Chuck, and Cheryl Taylor-Nicassio. Also, his 4 grandchildren, Andrew & Austin Nicassio, and Jessica Taylor-Nunez and Steven. Hugh also leaves behind his 4 sisters, Barbara Elkins, Gayle Slates, Joyce Cachopo, Norma Taylor and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Floyd and Irene, and brother Bruce. He will be mourned and missed by the many people who loved him.
When he was a toddler, his family moved into the facilities under the bleachers of the Santa Clara Baseball Stadium, where his father was the grounds keeper. Hugh felt that this was a very unique life experience. He shagged balls at the same stadium and later played little league. As a teen he pursued his father's passion of boxing.
Hugh worked for 35 years in the sheet metal trade and prided himself on 'Building America'. He retired at age 54 to have time to enjoy his many interests, which included super-modified hardtop racing, Giant's baseball and 49er's football. We regret he did not get to enjoy the new 49er's Stadium in Santa Clara where he had hoped to see his favorite team play.
Once Hugh retired, there were many times he would pack-up his beloved truck and hit the road for weeks. His 1997 GMC Sierra truck was fastidiously customized to his specifications. He drove his truck all over the country visiting friends and relatives, fishing and visiting interesting attractions.
Hugh was extraordinarily kind and giving. He was always there to help a friend out of a jam, help a family member in need, or just hang out with them in his custom garage. He enjoyed sharing his favorite songs by artists like Bob Dylan and John Prine. He enjoyed songs with a message. Hugh ws known by many who loved him as 'Mr. Inappropriate'. He had his own way of looking at things and was not shy about doing just what he wanted to do, ignoring conventional wisdom.
Hugh was a pet lover and leaves behind his best feline friend 'Scratch', his 2 dogs LuLu and Daisy, but is no doubt thoroughly enjoying hanging out with 'Jules', his pit bull and 'the best dog ever.'
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Villalobos Rescue Center (www.vrcpitbull.com) from a favorite TV program, Pit Bulls and Parolees, or BadRap (www.badrap.org), a pit bull rescue organization.
A Celebration of Hugh's Life will be held at Original Joe's in downtown San Jose on Friday, June 28th at 5:30 p.m.
