I have a Facebook Group for our class set up. Here's the link (a new window will open when you click it): http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=132312800139090

People can post photos and videos to the group for all to see, have group discussions, announce events, and generally keep in touch. It'd be really neat if anyone had old pictures they could post to get excited amped up before the big reunion!

Mary Ann Gutowski (Engel)

Hi Class of '61,

I am in the process of adding yearbook photos to the website.  I could use several yearbooks from 1961.  I need photos without writing.  If I have several yearbooks to work with, I think I can locate an unblemished photo of each classmate.  If you live in Schenectady and would be willing to loan your yearbook, please give me a call at 377-2692 or email at magengel@verizon.net.  I will pick up and return your yearbook

Thanks,

Mary Ann G. Engel (Gutowski)

Dear Class of '61!
We may have been the last class able to work its way through college, since Rockefeller's administration introduced not only a sales tax, but tuition at the state universities that have left them for the rich or heavily indebted. We were so lucky to have been in school right after Sputnik, to benefit from the Eisenhower administrations reaction to that event - the funding of education so sciences, languages, etc. would be studied more. I even had a course at Linton that dealt with the nations emerging from the shackles of colonialism! We were so lucky!
When I began teaching the Johnson administration was education friendly, but then things changed so that we wound up with No Child Left Behind and teachers frightened into teaching boring basics for standardized tests, like down here in Florida, the FCAT.
I wish fellow former students at the reunion all the best. Of my teachers only Mrs. Clyman, who taught Russian and then moved on to teach at SUNY at Albany, is probably still alive. She had a very interesting life and was a walking history book.

Sincerely, Jean Kathleen (Jones) Ranallo

THE CLASS REUNION submitted by: Jim Trapini

Every five  years, as summertime  nears,
 An  announcement arrives in the  mail,
 A reunion is  planned; it'll be really  grand;
 Make plans to  attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met;
 We tried so hard to impress.
 We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
and wore our  most elegant dress.

 It was quite an affair; the whole class was  there.
 It was held at a fancy hotel.
 We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
 And everyone thought it was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first
 To achieve great fortune and fame.
 Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
 And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
 Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
 The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
 And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

 No one had  heard about the class  nerd
 Who'd guided a  spacecraft to the moon;
 Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
 She married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed 'most apt to  succeed'
 Was serving  ten years in the pen,
 While the one voted 'least' now was a  priest;
 Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

 They awarded a prize to one of the guys
 Who seemed to have aged the least.
 Another was given to the grad who had driven
the farthest to attend the feast.

 They took a class picture, a curious mixture
 Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
 Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;
 You never saw so many thighs.

At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
 Then most of us lay around in the shade,
 In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fiftieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait; they've set the date;
Our  sixtieth is coming, I'm  told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling  quite hearty, and I'm ready to  party
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early  light.
It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one
Other person who can make it that night.

Holiday Lunch - 2011

Two holiday get togethers have been planned by the reunion committee for this year at the Grog Shoppe on Erie Blvd.  As you may know, that is Ricky Mont's home-away-from-home.  The first lunch will be held on Tuesday, December 13th at 1pm.  The second will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 12:30.  No need to RSVP, just come.  Significant others are welcome also.

55th Reunion is not a December type reunion.  In my opinion no out of towners will attend.  Have a tad more imagination and move it to September 2017 as our 55.5th year reunion and have the DEC date as a  local get together for local alumni. Do it right!!!!!

Yours truly
