Sylvia DeMarco, 67, of Schenectady, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, following an extended illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Jefferson Heights, NY, on October 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence R. and Viola Belle (nee: Hotaling) DeMarco. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools, graduating from Linton High School. After graduation, Sylvia worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Pine Grove Dairy, in Schenectady. She worked for St. Paul the Apostle Church as a lunchroom monitor. Most recently, Sylvia worked with Catholic Charities as a head cook at the Jewish Community Center. During this time, she was also a counselor for "Kids Time" at Birchwood and Rosendale Schools. Sylvia is remembered for her devotion to her faith and her compassion and love of children. She dearly loved the children at JCC and treated them like family. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her niece, Karen DeMarco. Sylvia is survived by her loving brother and his family, Larry and Kathy DeMarco of Scotia; two nephews, Daniel and Lori DeMarco of Ballston Lake and Peter DeMarco of Scotia; two great-nephews, Anthony and Angelo DeMarco; and many dear friends, including, Sharon Mango and Judy Aiken, both of Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2733 Albany St., Schenectady, followed by interment in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
