The great Mr. James T.Gilliland - who I dearly respected - once came into the art room where I was working on a "still life" which looked NOTHING like the one he had set up for us. In that wonderful southern accent of his he said, "Paul, I told you what I wanted you to do. What are you doing? Paul, you get an "F"".
Of course, I went on to become a full time artist....and Mr. G was only joking.
Paul's Latest Interactions
From BEATLE to you....the one that got away
I was informed of Vic's passing by his cousin, our classmate, David Warlick.
If you want to get to know who Victor Bessette was just look at The Talent On Parade pages in the 1967 Lintonaire. That's Vic with the tambourine, me with the guitar, wearing outfits that Vic insisted we wear to look "cool".
Technically, along with Jinx Daley, playing the red guitar, Vic wasn't even a member of The Tactics except for that one performance. But we did a fine job that night to an audience including the obligatory screaming girls. Vic was a good singer. The screams that night were justified.
Vic was my neighbor - lived about two blocks from me on Eastern Avenue. He replaced Greg Symanski, seen in the Lintonaire TOP shot playing a white bass. Greg's family moved to Vermont. Vic learned to play a bit on Greg's original Japanese bass; taught himself, I think. The band rehearsed a few times the summer after graduation but never got a gig. We split up when Vic and I went to college. Then I didn't "see" him till recently and then only as a contributor on FaceBook.
Vic married a neighborhood girl whose full name, I'm sorry escapes me these 50+ years later. Maybe it was Karen?
In high school days Vic would crawl out his bedroom window onto the roof of his house so he could smoke cigarettes, which his parents forbade. LOL
For graduation he received a red 1967 Chevrolet Camaro convertible.
Victor was one of those old friends who "knew" me and we could correspond, agree and disagree and laugh on line. That's pretty unusual these days.
Even though I think our politics differed we got along on line until one day he was just not there. And then Dave wrote me.
RIP Mr. Bessette. I will remember you fondly.

Thanks for the geezer reminder! LOL We'll be geezering again in the studio on July 25th recording a cover of a 60's classic tune...why? ...because I've always wanted to cover LIES by The Knickerbockers. Thanks for your comment. I know it was all in fun. XXOO =P=
This tune was written with our former president in mind, although I think it can apply to many politicians and even apply to personal relationships. Recorded at Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, NJ and at Hillis Hacienda in Phoenixville, PA just prior to the 2020 election..Spike McCrae on drums, Michael D. Anderson on Sax, Jocko MacNelly on Bass, Mike Sproat on lead guitar, yours truly on vocals and 12 string guitar. Share it if you like it. Thanks for listening classmates.
