Harvey LeRoy Knaub, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, friend, and car collector, passed away at the Torrington Community Hospital peacefully on July 15, 2024, at the age of 78. He leaves behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and passion that will be cherished by all who know him.
Harvey was born July 6th, 1946, in Scottsbluff, NE to Bill and Emma (Rahmig) Knaub. He attended schools in Minatare and Mitchell, NE, and later transferred to Scottsbluff Junior High School as a freshman, graduating High School in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Meter, on August 4th, 1968, in Gering, NE.
Harvey was a devoted husband to his wife, Sharon for 55 years, and a loving father to his two children, Kimberly and Troy. As a grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchild, he was known for his wisdom, humor, and unwavering support.
Harvey attended college at WNCC in Scottsbluff where he matriculated with his Associate of Arts degree. From there he attended Chadron State College to complete his Bachelor in Business Education in 1970. He was an educator at Torrington High School from 1971 to 2008 and dedicated himself to education and his students, as a teacher, mentor, and role model.
In addition to his passion for education, Harvey had a deep love for cars. His collection of classic cars was a source of pride and joy, reflecting his appreciation for craftsmanship and design. The most memorable moment was when he found and acquired his dad’s 1967 Chevelle 33 years later.
Harvey will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, generosity, and passion for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter Kim; his son Troy (Joell); his grandchildren Blake Knaub, Logan (Lexi) Knaub, Jaxen Knaub, Kalli Smith (Kodiak Martinez) and great-grandson Payton Martinez. Also surviving are his sister Kathie (Dwayne) Weiss and his brother Duane Knaub.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister-in-law Linda Knaub and his in-laws, Violet Schmidt and Riney Meter.
Visitation will be on Thursday. July 18th, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Colyer’s Funeral Home, 2935 Main, Torrington, WY. A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held on Friday, July 19th, 2024, at 10:00am at First Congregational Church, 2102 East E, Torrington, WY 82240, with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating.
Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery, 30th Avenue, Torrington, WY 82240. Memorials can be made to the First Congregation Church in Harvey’s name, or donations for school supplies can be made to the family.
