Carolyn and I weren't close in high school, but became steadfast friends while working in Gering; she for the recruiting office and me for Masek Auto Supply.

Since I didn't have a car, she would collect me at my apartment and we'd head to Gering in the monstrous 50's Packard vehicle her father gave her.  It was huge and it was ugly.  Once she saved enough money she purchased a honey of a car - a baby blue Volkswagen Beetle.  We thought we were the talk of the town!

We remained friends until her passing in 1969.  It was a tragic situation and one that stayed with me throughout my life.  I will never forget the memories we made.
