William Mabin

William “Bill” LeRoy Mabin

Bill, 62, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, June 18, 2009.  Memorial funeral services were held June 24 at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating. Inurnment ceremony took place at the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.  Graveside military rites were provided by the United States Marine Corps.

Bill was born September 27, 1946, in Scottsbluff, to William and Helen (Bernhardt) Mabin.  Bill grew up and received his education in Scottsbluff. He did not graduate with the Class of 65 from Scottsbluff High School but did get his GED in 1986.  Bill served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968.

He married Barbara Weis on October 2, 1970, and to this union one son was born – William Cameron Mabin.  Bill worked at Swift and Company, the Gas Company, and as a cement contractor for several years.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #0036 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Gering, and was a member of Moose Lodge #459. 

He is survived by his son William, sister Sharon and brother-in-law Jerry Thurman of Scottsbluff; stepbrother and wife Bill and Celia Tatum of Pocahontas, ARK, uncle Ruben Bernhardt of Minatare; niece Beverly Strahler of Jacksonville, FL, and nephew Rod Thurman of Scottsbluff.  Bill is also survived by numerous cousins and good friends.

His parents, stepmother, Pearl Mabin, and one brother, Ted, preceded him in death.
