I remeber Dan Colvin and John Hennley "the other genius" coming to school in seventh grade with trench coats on,asking people if they wanted to buy any tanks! And then opening their coats to see rows and rows of models of different military tanks sewn into their coats.
I also remember Dan being the youngest person I knew with a full beard in seventh grade.

I can remember walking home from school with Dan in the early early days of Mohave. He had that quirky,understatement-kind of humor that made me laugh, and a very unique way of seeing life. We used to play "war" together with some of the other neighbor kids. (The story about the tanks in the trenchcoat reminded me of that.) I swear, I think Dan sported that beard even in the 2nd grade! He was a brilliant, gentle soul and he will be missed. --Nan

I met Dan with the group of people from his junior high my freshman year. We were always close friends but became family in our senior year when a bunch of us moved in together. We had awesome camping trips to the hot springs, and the superstition mountains. Such great times.

Dan you are missed but I know you are at peace now.

Danny Colvin- My elementary school BFF.
I chuckled regarding the commments about wearing the trench coat and the army tanks. I had forgotten that. Classic Dan.
My very first date I have ever had was with Dan. We were in 5th grade and we were going to go to the sugar bowl in down town Scottsdale.
I got all dressed, I remember wearing my white gogo boots. He came to pick me up on his bike so we could ride to his house because his dad was going to drive us. I got on the seat of his bike as my parents watched from the window only to see us a few feet down the street on the ground, yes we took a spill, and down we both went. We made it to the sugar bowl that day, cuts, scrapes and all.
Danny I pray you have found peace, and I'm sure you are talking up there with all the great scholars. xo

Dan,

You and Mark Bernasek were(are)my oldest friends on this planet. We have been pals from third grade on. So many memories. Scouts, all those war games. Our Lord of the Rings trivia duels. The chicken fights at Mohave's schoolyard. Playing flag football(Go Mavericks). I know things got really rough for you at the end but I truly hope you have found the peace you always sought. Sleep well old friend.

Aw, Christ, Dan.

It's been at least 5 lifetimes ago. I have thought of you often across the years. Tonight I found out you are gone. Well maybe from the world, but you live on. I'll have some stories for my wife tonight.

I'm old now and not nearly as reckless as we were in those days, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Here's t'yer memories, still alive in this black heart o'mine. Godspeed ye scurvy wretch.

I first met Dan when we were in 3rd grade at Mohave Elementary. I remember that he had an other-worldly chivralrousness that I could never quite place. Was it something akin to the Middle Ages (a la King Arthur) -- or was it more like Middle-earth? I worked part-time for several years at Markgraf Pharmacy at Hayden and Indian School. Sometimes Dan would be driving along Granite Reef Road, see me walking to work, and offer me a ride in his white pickup truck that had the word "Tonka" on the tailgate. When we arrived at the destination, I would jump out of the pickup, slam the door, and flippantly toss a "Thanks for the ride!" The look on this face would indicate that I had somehow broken the decorum. It was as if he half expected me to delicately alight from the carriage, and with a curtsey and slight nod of the head respond with "Thank you, kind sir." We'll miss you, Dan.

Dan,
So many memories. I still vividly remember how we used to playact Lord of The Rings, and that I got to be Arwen. Weren't you Gandalf? How fitting!! You even taught me some Elvish.
All those afternoons and evenings spent hanging out at Mohave, perhaps getting into things that we shouldn't have been getting into - and moving picnic tables where they shouldn't have been moved to - and ingesting things we definitely should have been ingesting ...... such great fun!
Oh, and the German speaking and Hitler re-enactments . Not too politically correct, but what did we know then? Hanging out outside my house getting crazy with Mark Bernasek and Steve Francis. Spin the bottle in my house at lunch (if my parents had known!!!!).
I have always remembered you . You were special. I hope you have peace....... and fun.

Dan and I acted together at Mojave. I broke his nose in rehearsal. He was a truly good guy. This makes me sad. Kathi
