Lisa, You might want to check out some of these houseboats. They are fairly elegant and loaded with toys. Some might even come with jet skis and the like. I think Susan S. is right in that we would need to reserve one far in advance, but then I haven't made any inquires.
Then again, I don't know anything about lakeside cabins, boat and ski/jet ski rentals. All something to look into. Perhaps we shouldn't limit ourshelves to Lake Powell, but also look at other places too? When I find some free time (insert much laughing here), I'll do some in-depth research! And, I'll behave and not bite your toes!
Anita--a houseboat party on any lake wouldn't be any fun without you!
Lisa, you have a point. All I can say is, Lake Powell is huge; many areas can only be reached by boat; it would be a memorable, unforgettable experience (undeniably expensive, but only $350-$400 per person for 4 days based on preliminary figures). I just mentioned the houseboat because it's a dream I've had for awhile--my photography thing kicking in.
Maybe Susan can add more. (I think taking some guys along would be fun, actually. My brother might be availiable, class of '74.)
Ok we are going to the lake, no cabins at Lake Powell the closest think is the lodge or the town of Page and they do not compare to staying on the lake. Lake Powell has over 1200 miles of shore line and the scenery is like being in Sedona with all the red rocks. It has lots of canyons and coves. I say we stick with the original girl trip, no guys. We can see if Cayce even wants to go.
Ladies and a couple of Men? I just put in a request for next June so we will see what they come back with. I put in for the 75ft Excursion. Sleeps 14, 5 bedrooms 2 3/4 bathrooms. The price for four days is $7,915. I will let you know when they call or email me back with a choice of dates.
Susan, Don't they have a smaller one. I thought only 6-8 of us were going? Almost 8.000.00?? WOW! Can we do mid to late June? My girls don't get out of school until the middle of June.
Ok here are two more options. 59 ft sleeps 12, 1.5 bathrooms 4 bebrooms for $1142 a day. option 2, 48 ft sleeps 12, 3 bedroom 1 bath 4 days at $4,125.00. Both of these have A/C. The really small ones do not and it's 100 plus up there in the summer. I have no problem driving the boat I just want to be beached by early afternoon so I can party to!!
Oh dear that does not include gas. I would imagine we could spend at least $50 each for gas and that's if we don't drive around all day but just beach it which is find with me. It also shows a slide off the back of the boat. The really huge one had a hot tub and I only priced that one because of the previous post which had named a ton of people. I won't laugh at you, only with you!!
Susan, What site are you checking? Also, I'm thinking that if we look to get something early or later, we'll get a better deal. If we go smack in the middle of summer, we'll have to pay the high season price. I also think that we need to have AT LEAST two bathrooms. Thanks for the quotes, it gives me an idea of what bank to rob.
What other woman has been somewhat of a regular on here?
NOT any of those women at the reunion who just laughed when I asked why more people don't come on here and talk..(still don't get why they just laughed (?) :) Just kidding, we need one more..if you can keep up with us talkers!
Lisa, I think I know why they laughed. When I first forayed into the forum, I was overwhelmed. I couldn't keep up with the banter. I felt like I had to go back several pages to figure out things (remember?) Plus, on top of all the email accounts I already have to check, blogs, and regular life stuff, adding one more thing sounded like too much...but then I jumped in and got into the swing of things and it's fun. So, perhaps they laughed because they have FEAR!!!!! I did, but now I'm fearless of the forum!!!
The site is Lake Powell Houseboats. If you don't go in the peak season then the water is to cold to get in. I use to go up the third weekend in May for ten years with all my friends and we would take out my parents boat which slept 8. You could stick your feet in the water but that was about it. When you get a houseboat with that many people you want to be able to get in the water and wash off. You can't take half hour showers as you run out of water and then fill the waste water tank to the point where you can't even use the bathroom. That's why you take Ivory soap because if floats, and it's not bad for the fish and jump in the crystal clear water.
Girls, I have an option B. We rent a house in Rocky Pointe on the beach. I would imagine we could do it for 4 days 3 nights at the most $1,000.00. I can talk to Dane who goes down there all the time to see if he can hook us up. I thought we are still on the water and you can rent toys down there, and its about the same drive time.
Rocky Pointe sounds affordable. I believe passports are required now. Do the toilets flush in rental houses? I've been there once and people piled their used toilet paper in the corners and in the trashcans because the toilets didn't flush. But that was at an RV campground.
Mimi--Chaparral Lake presents logistical problems for sailing--too long and narrow, too much tacking and gybing. I'm really okay for Lake Pleasant or Roosevelt, but I gotta get my trailer hitch replaced first. I'll see what I can do in the next couple weeks for that.
And maybe we can plan on Lake Powell in the future. Adios, Michele
Thanks again Michelle for getting the CO reunion organized. Michelle Rainbolt, Andy McClure, Jeff Spielman and Laurie Ecolono - thanks for coming! It was great to see you again and meet your families/spouses. Hopefully next time we'll get the rest of the Colorado crew!
Michele E. What size ball do you need for your trailer? I have a slider with the ball welded on that you can have if it's the right size and if your vehicle uses a slider. Let me know, I also live in Scottsdale.
