Dave, Deb and a dog have been a threesome for more than 30 years.  When I met them by chance in Nevada in 1982, they were living in a small motor home with a big sheep dog named Jasper.  They were surveying for a seismic exploration firm and I had gone out to moderate a debate between the Sierra Club and Sen. John Breaux.  I joined Dave Doug and Jasper in the motor home for several days.  They took drove me to Texas where I caught a flight to Guatemala.  I stayed with Dave and Deb in July 2010, sleeping in their present RV.  The next day instead of using my car to go to Orcas Island in the San Juans, Dave insisted we use their van so that Maya could ride in comfort on her car bed.  Maya didn't bother to get out at our stops or to look at the land that interested me.  She had seen more than her share of the world with Dave and Deb and came along more for the company than the view or the smells.  Maya died in October.  Few dogs have had better friends than Dave and Deb.
