My Mother's News Reporting

After I went to college in Sept. 1957, my mother wrote at least twice a week, reporting news from Sea Cliff--Bolithos, Bathies, Goldicks, Berroyers (Tom was doing her taxes), Lawlors, Kenny Kay at the Pavilion, and more. I've been rereading these letters to send on to neices and nephews for the family archives. Below is an excerpt from one that mentions several Sea Cliff High grads.

[from my mother’s letter, 7 April 1958, Monday]

. . . Dave Schweers and I had quite a chat. He was looking for a lifeguard job. He is doing better in his school after a very poor beginning. He too will be an uncle. [My brother Art and Sandy Van Wagner about to have a baby also]

Mr. B [Bolitho] says the old gang is returning [to the Pavilion as lifeguards] so I guess Dave will not be on the beach. Even Nick [Epanchin] is coming back & Ed Myles on weekends.

Nick & Bob [Lucas] made a social fraternity at Colgate – whatever that means.

Ian Ronald was in Kings Park but they say he is out again.

Edith [Gildersleeve] is home ill. She cannot return to school before September. Told Bill to write her as I have an idea her romance is off.
