Glen Head Girl Is Guest Editor

Miss Priscilla Bowden of High Farms Rd., Glen head, who graduated from Radcliffe College this June, has just finished working for a month as a Guest Editor In Chief of Mademoiselle Magazine in New York.

                Ms. Bowden was one of 20 girls chosen from more than 800 students, who served on Mademoiselle’s 1960 to 61 College Board.  She has written the “Memo From The Editor” column.

                Although not a newcomer to New York, Ms. Bowden was introduced to “new aspects of the city.”          She met producer Joshua Logan at a tea in his apartment and later previewed his new movie “Fanny” at a showing arranged especially for the Guest Editors.  She also modeled in Mademoiselle’s fashion show at the Commodore Hotel.  Ms. Bowden, a former member of the Record Pilot’s staff, is planning to continue her career with Mademoiselle.  She has joined the staff of the College And Career department to work on future College Board Contests.

Miss M. Vaccaro becomes bride

Sea Cliff.  Michelina Ann Vaccaro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Vaccaro of this village,became the bride of Richard Alfred Bonneau of Pawtucket, R.I., on June 23 at a 10 AM the optional mass ceremony in St. Boniface Martyr R.C. Church of Sea Cliff.

                The bride is a graduate of Post College, where she received both her bachelor’s degree of arts and masters degree of library science.she is employed by the Eastern Massachusetts regional library system as a regional young adults services librarian.  Her husband, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bonneau, is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.  He is employed by the George Meade Co. in Bedford, Mass.

                After a Canadian honeymoon, the couple will live in Natick, Mass.

 

May 3, 1962

Miss Bennett and Mr. Hall Are Married

                Miss Blanche Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Andrews Bennett, of Hillside Avenue., Glenwood Landing, was married on April 28 to Mr. Arthur H.  Hall Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Hall Sr. of 9 Harriet Ct. Sea Cliff.

                The ceremony was performed by Rev. Boston of Glenwood Landing Presbyterian Church, at 12 noon.  The bride was given in marriage by her father.

                The bride wore a long gallon with chapel train of tissue silk, long sleeves, and a pearl crown with butterfly veil.  She carried a bouquet of gardenias.

                Mr. James Tolmie acted as best man for the bridegroom; Mr. John Broderick and Mr. Paul St. Andre were ushers.

                A reception was held at the holiday house, Glen Cove.

                After a wedding trip to upstate New York, the couple will live at 7 Harriet Court, Sea Cliff.

 

June 14, 1962

Airman 3/c Walter G. Meier Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Meier, Salem Way, Glen Head has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  He will be stationed at Goodfellow A.F.B. , San Angelo, Texas where he will receive technical training in Air Force Intelligence.  He was previously employed by Powers Chemco, Glen Cove.

Fred T. Burns, 21, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Burns, of 37 Sylvia St., Glenwood Landing, returned last Tuesday from Frankfurt Germany where he was stationed for two years with the US Army.

Miss Gildersleeve  Is Engaged

Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Gildersleeve of 3 winding way in Seacliff announce the engagement of their daughter, Joan Ellen to Mr. Peter George Madson, son of the Rev. and Mrs. G. Ralph Madson of Tampa, Florida.

The bride to be is a graduate of North Shore high school, studied A.I B. at Hofstra College, and is presently employed by the Franklin National Bank of Sea Cliff.

           Her fiancé is a graduate of Oglethorpe College and is currently studying for the ministry at the General Theological Seminary in New York City.  No date has been set for the wedding.

 

 

 August 24, 1961

Ms. Ruth Ahearn of Sea Cliff  Weds Mr. Loeber of Locust Valley

           Ms. Ruth Christine Ahearn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James F.  Ahearn of 85 Lafayette Ave., Sea Cliff became the bride of Mr. Gerald G. Loeber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Famalette Of Bayville Rd., Locust Valley on Saturday, August 19 in St. Boniface martyr Church, Sea Cliff.

           The Rev. John V. Tunny performed the ceremony.

           The bride wore a white poiedesoie silk gown and carried a missal.

           Matron of honor was Mrs. William Duffy, sister of the bride.  Mrs. Duffy is a resident of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  She wore a white pique dress and carried a basket of garden flowers.

           Bridesmaids included Ms. Ann Ahearn of Sea Cliff, Mrs. John Green of Glen head , and Miss Margaret Rich of Sea Cliff. 

           Best man was Mr. Frank Famalette, stepfather of the bridegroom.

           Ushers included Mr. Ralph Longo of Sea Cliff, Mr. John Green of Glen head, and Mr. Gilbert Halpin of Brookhaven.

           A reception followed the ceremony, at the home of the bride.

           Mrs. Loeber is a graduate of Sea Cliff High School and St. Joseph’s Hospital School Of Nursing, Yonkers. The bridegroom graduated from St. John’s Prep , and the University of Rhode Island.  He saw service with the US Army.  He is currently Dir. Of Athletics in the Syosset school district.

 

 

Sept. 21, 1961

Miss Mary Ann Kearney is wed Sunday to Mr. Ned McAdams

Ms. Mary Ann Kearney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James G.  Kearney of old Brookville, was married on Saturday, September 16, two Mr. Ned McAdams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al McAdams of Glenwood Landing.  The Rev. Mario Costa performed the ceremony in St. Patrick’s Church and Rev. Sahey, S.J. said the Mass and bestowed the Apostle Blessing.

           The bride wore a floorlength white taffeta gallon, trimmed with Alencon lace.  Her fingertip veil of illusion net was attached to a matching headpiece with a tear of pearl on her forehead.  She carried white orchids and stephanotis.

           Mrs. Ellen Smith, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.  Her gown was of gold taffeta, and she carried  rust mums.  The other attendants were Ann, Cecilia and Rosemary Duffy, Mrs. Anna McAdams and Miss Maureen O’Brien.  All were attired in sea green taffeta and carried white mums.

           Mr. Jean McAdams, brother of the groom, acted as best man.  Ushers were Brian O’Toole, Fred Burns, Alfred Brown, William Lindsay and Robert Fitzgerald.

           A reception was held at the Nassau country club with music by Ted Larson’s Orchestra.  After a wedding trip to the Poconos, Mr. and Mrs. McAdams will live on Sylvia St., Glenwood Landing.

Engaged To Dentist

Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Freedman of Sea Cliff have announced the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sandra Irene, a speech therapist, Dr. Jerome H. Oppenheim of Babylon, a dentist.

           The wedding will take place July 22 in the Roslyn Country Club.the newlyweds will honeymoon in the Canadian Rockies and on the West Coast.

           Miss Freedman is a graduate of Emerson College.  She is with the national County vocational board at the Westbury School for retarded children.

           The dentist, the son of Mrs. Bessie Oppenheim and the late Abraham Oppenheim, studied at the University College of New York University and graduated from its College of dentistry.  He is currently on the staff of the good Samaritan Hospital, West Islip.  He is an Army veteran.

           The couple will reside in Babylon.

 

Newlyweds Head West

Sandra Irene Freedmanof Seacliff, and Dr. Jerome H. Oppenheim of Babylon left for Lake Louise, Canada, and the Seattle world’s fair.  Following their marriage in the Roslyn Country Club.

           The bride, it a graduate of Emerson College, is a speech therapist for retarded children in the Westbury School For Special Services.she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Freedman.

           Dr. Oppenheim, a dentist on the staff of good Samaritan Hospital, holds degrees from New York University and its school of dentistry.  He is the son of Mrs. Bessie Oppenheim and the late Abraham Oppenheim.

Dear folks:

           I find myself feeling annoyed as do many others who live in Glenwood, to realize that some people who receive their mail and Glen head, (although the post office is in Glenwood) seem not to know that they actually live in Glenwood Landing.  Look at a map; if you live in Glenwood, say so.

 

           Judy Olsen of Huron St., daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Olsen, will be married in June, to Ronald Christian of Newark, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Christian.
