Born Jan 27, 1942 , passed away Mar 28, 2022. David Gillmore Mapes, 80, passed away on March 28, 2022 peacefully surrounded by family. He was born January 27, 1942 and was a long time resident of Chardon, Ohio. David was married to the love of his life, Suzanne for almost 55 years. He was a much loved father of Kathryn Massaro (Chris), Jennifer Christ (Mike) and Robert Mapes (Naomi), Maggie Ecker (Earl), Karla Sayles (Steve) and loving grandfather of Lauren, Caroline, Vivian, Sage, Julian, Bryan (Vanessa), Robert, Heather, Kelly, Kristen and Caleb. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Smith and daughter Felicia Bartell. David grew up with his twin sister, Diana Woodbridge, in Arizona and Cleveland. He was a teacher for 33 years at Hobart Middle School in Painesville, owned a canoe livery in Brinkhaven, Ohio and Thrasher TV in Chardon. He faithfully served St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Chardon as a Lay Reader and Eucharistic Minister for over 50 years. David was a faithful family man who enjoyed a spirited conversation about Cleveland sports, current events or history. He quietly made it his mission to help others. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to St. Luke's Episcopal Church 11519 Wilson Mills Rd, Chardon Ohio 44024.
