I'm not quite sure what it was about Fr. Ian. He was one of my favorite teachers from the first day of class, and he was someone I really looked up to. His religion class was interesting. He was very intelligent and very gentle in his ways. He could be seen playing tennis with the students or showing up for someone's birthday party in the commons or kitchen. He always struck me as a man who really lived his faith, but quietly, with no overtures. Perhaps I liken it to readings of the lives of the saints I like. I am grateful to have crossed his path. Fr. Ian taught me to love going to Confession. We would take the walk along the front drive. When I would ask him to go to confession, he, and Fr. Louis as well, would ask me "How many Laps, J?" It showed me the love of the Church, listening, forgiving, and sending me on my way to "Go and sin no more..."

I miss Ian daily.  He was a kind, loving, non-judgemental person who despite the trials of his prolonged illness and eventual death, remained faithful, supportive, and generous to others.  His photo remains in my medicine chest and serves as an example to me of who I need to strive to be every day.
