I never had Fr. Augustine for class, but I knew who he was and enjoyed hearing from Latin students about his classes. The year before he died, Maureen, Ann, Kimberly and I saw Fr. Augustine sitting by the fish pond. We went over to say hello and he started telling us stories about the history of St.Gregory's, funny happenings and interesting people who made the college what it is today. We bought the cookbook he put together and were glad we did. It has some of the stories he related to us that day. So strange to be with someone one day and then not again, at least on this earth. Requiem en Pace, Fr. Augustine

Fr. Augustine was my favorite. He was so easy to talk to. I had him for 2 years of Latin, and I also kept in touch with him after graduating. I took my children to St. Gregory's one day, and he gave us a tour of the chapel. He had so much history to offer us. He new about every stained glass window and their meanings. My children still remember him. I'll never forget him.

I had Fr. Augustine for Latin and was honored to work with him in his parish. I think it was some kind of an internship for Youth Ministry. I think it was in Harrah or McLoud. I was considering the priesthood at that time and one thing has stuck with me ever since.

Fr. Augustine told me that, to be a good priest it should never be because you think you would not be a good husband or father, it has to be because you KNOW you would be a Great Husband and Father.

For as imposing of a figure he cast, especially when he was Dean of Students, he had a gentleness about him that you would have deaf and blind not to see.

I cherish our weekly drives to whichever small parish that was, I miss his humor, his no-nonsense wisdom.

Pray for us, Fr. Augustine.

J. Arroyo
