I know this memory page will be filled with funny stories about Fr. Joe, or at the very least, people will chuckle when they remember history class and Fr. Joe's quirky mannerisms. I know Stacey Ryan did a great immitation. I loved American History class for the first time ever with Fr. Joe. He was a treat. Thank you Fr. Joe for putting up with so many of us students through the years. Susan Baker
Fr. Joe was my favorite. I still go to Shawnee and visit his grave to 'talk' to him. I received a degree in History because of the love of history he instilled in me.
My roommate, now a priest at the Abbey, Fr. Boniface, OSB, and I would sit in Fr. Joe's office and listen to his stories. I don't think there is a student that went to St. Greg's between 1930 and 1981 who did not come away with a story of Fr. Joe. Whether it was History class, ("Japs went dat away and sunk our boats! We got the girls to make more boats and sunk their boats!") to his office "Eschew Obsfucation", he was precious!
Fr. Joe must have had chalk in his veins, he was such a wonderful teacher. I have strived to just be a hint of the teacher he was.
