Track Fund

 The Story:

In 2006, SHS graduate Mr. Tom Root formulated the dream of constructing an all-weather track facility. The current dirt track is unusable during most of the spring as a result of snow melt and/or spring rain storms. Consequently, track athletes are required to practice on the surrounding streets or in the gymnasium.
The lack of adequate facilities also denies the community the opportunities of hosting community events such Heisey and AAU youth meets as well as numerous high school and middle school invitational track and field meets. Additionally, the facility would allow us the opportunity to bid on District and Divisional meets. The dirt track also becomes a hazard to spectators during the fall activities season as the track becomes heavily saturated.
Likewise, the football field in the center of the track oval is in serious need of reconstruction. It is not appropriately crowned, and it lacks a safe in-ground irrigation system that has resulted in numerous potholes contributing to a risk of injury.
In 2008, Shelby School District #14 in concert with the City of Shelby had the proposed site mapped by an architectural and engineering firm. The firm concluded that the cost of renovating the existing track and football area would cost between $600,000 and $800,000.
Currently, over $62,000 has been raised.
