SHELBY - Leonard Fredrick "Lenny" Knickerbocker, 62, of Shelby, a retired contractor and Army veteran, died of cancer Saturday at his home.
Visitation is 1 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitted Funeral Chapel. His funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial with military in Mountain View Cemetery.
Lenny died Jan. 16, 2010, at home, surrounded by his family after a long struggle with cancer. He was born June 13, 1947, in Stanley, N.D., the youngest son of Lew and Georgia (Texel) Knickerbocker. He grew up and graduated from high school in Shelby in 1965.
He served two years in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and upon his return, he married Linda Moss and started his family. Lenny worked around Montana and the northwest U.S., building homes and contracting with his brother, Denny. Lenny retired due to health issues in 1988, and has since been residing in Shelby where he painted, socialized, and spent time with his family. Lenny always had a strong sense of family and community, and he will be dearly missed by his loved ones and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Georgia Knickerbocker of Shelby; his ex-wife, Linda Knickerbocker-Reynolds of Havre; a daughter, Nichole Knickerbocker-Kemm of Whitefish; a son, Chad Knickerbocker of Shelby; a daughter, Brittany Knickerbocker-Wikel of Calgary, Alberta; a brother, Denny Knickerbocker of Shelby; sisters Laurie Elhard of Cut Bank and Pam Faulhaber of Shelby; his aunt, Buddy Curtis of Shelby; four grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chance Knickerbocker; his father, Lew Knickerbocker of Shelby; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
