"The Devils House", Wow...Dave and I could tell you stories about that place...Stories of an old man who dedicated his life to designing cars for GM, built a beutiful house, had expensive statues, birds, fish, peacocks, and then stories of years of idiots driving up to his place to trespass, poison his fish, try to kill his dogs(a friendly female shepard and male terrier supposedly that flew around the house), damage his property, assault and even plot to kill "Mason" when he would make attempts to protect his property until the police got there. Dave and I for years would listen to cars full of "curious kids" reaping havoc, yelling, taunting...until Dave and I were big enough to walk/drive down to Masons house and help run off these fckers. I was once even accused of being "satans helper" by some bitch all tripped out in one of the cars.. Kids from all over as far into Detroit heard about the "Devils House". I always wondered as a kid about why kids would mess with this old man. After seeing that I was trying to help him, he asked if I could help him further by moving some furniture in his house to clean oriental rugs. I'll never forget it. If anything fit a Devils story, It was Rolling Stones tune 'sympathy for the Devil' because truly this man had "wealth and taste". Beutiful peacocks calling, not "screams" from his victims. Can you only imagine if this was your place. This mans golden years were tormented by a pizza delivery guys story gone way out of control... There you have it, the story of "Masons" house. Aaron

Last time I talked to him he said you lived by him in Traverse City or maybe he said he saw you. Not sure.

Kolek and I are most likely in for the gathering on the 25th. We're thinking of styling our hair circa 1989. Don't light a match around us.

Frantz/Murphy - I REMEMBER that damn party...and putting our shoes in your Mom's trunk...but wasn't it that big, phat, old-school, light blue Mercedes? Hilarious.

Devil House: I was definitely one of the A-holes who would drive past it w/my car full of people. I can't believe the amount of $hit I look back on with regret. That poor old man. :(

Does anyone remember the party when Kolek's car got filled to the brim with styrofoam packing peanuts? Cops showed up and when we ran to her car and opened the doors, it was an avalanche of that crap into the driveway. I might have pee'd my pants that night from laughing so hard...

Aaron good for you for helping out that poor older man.
I doubt you will ever fully realize how much that meant to him.
I always heard about the house. I know folklore can be fun but it can also be damaging.
Again, I think it is great that you and your buddies showed this guy that all teenagers were not out to get him.
I also know that several of you that may have gone by there drove by for curiosity and are truly not malicious people.

Paul, I left Jeff Szczpanski a voice mail about the site last week. We live somewhat near one another. I guess we all live next to each other since the 5 county Grand Traverse area is smaller than Shelby! His youngest goes to the same school as my daughter. If I see his wife in the car line, I will tell her to get him on this site.

Hey Lynn! What's shakin'? What's wrong with Mike, is he too good for us?

Meg, it sure seems like you haven't changed AT ALL!

I had no idea the legend of the "Devil's house" was so widespread. I actually lived behind this guys house on the other side of the woods that divided the two subs. We would frequently hang out in the woods, occasionally wandering too far only to find ourselves in the backyard of the devil. First you would see the dark outline of his house then shadowy figures scattered about (the statues) and the strange moaning and shreaking (exotic birds). Next you would hear the footfall of what seemed like an army of dogs heading right for you. You had no choice but to run as fast as you could until you reached the safe zone which was the stream.

I never knew his house was famous on the other side too. To this day I've never seen the front of that house.

I believe the devil house was off of 24 mile just to the east of Shelby Road. If you were traveling east on 24 mile you had to make a right and then another right and it was at the end. I have a fond memory of this place as one time some of my friends and I were chased out of there by the two rottweilers (or whatever types of dogs they had there).

Remember the 'ditch' near the devil's house. That was a local hangout for couples too.

Andrew, no kidding. I lived at the corner of Arthur and brookside. But you know what I'm talkin about... His female shepard was a sweetheart but like any old bitch she stood her ground... Sure the old man called the cops on me a couple of times for lighting off firecrackers and shit, but there's no way I would wish that shit on anyone... Well maybe, I used to have a neighbor here in Wisconsin that called the cops on me all the time for all kinds of shit... I told my 4 nephews about it and they were like little demons, hanging on the fence, throwing dead squirrels in thier yard and porch, doorbell throughout the night.. Now can you imagine a place where kids carry guns?

Just wanted to let everyone know that Mr.(Larry) Noe died this Sunday, October 5. Viewing is tonight (Wednesday) 2-9 at William Sullivan in Utica. You can go to The Detroit News obits to get all the info.

Mr. Noe, what a loss. I used to be his aide during the lunch hour to help him organize activities and schedules.
He was the sweetest man and so dedicated to the students and their needs. He would do anything to help a student out.
I can still here him say, "Sheri what's our game plan now?"
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted during this tragic time.

Andrew do you come up with the ideas for survivor, the same way you did when we made traps for the (DEVIL) in the woods?

10/08/08 06:35 PM #267

Andrew Bolhuis

Sure do. And Jeff Probst is the devil.

Good to see more and more people signing up everyday. I remember just a couple of weeks ago it was only around 5 people. I hope many of you can make it on 25-Oct at Gus O Conners in Rochester. It should be a blast. We will start around 7 pm.
Aaron, stop with all the defending of the Devil mans house. I am beginning to think you guys had more going on then met the eye. Of course you might have. Wasnt shortly after he passed away that you aquired your business? I am putting it all together now. lol. Anyway, he was a good man and did not deserve that kind of treatment.
Yaroch, you talked about the choice the police gave you at my party and I must admit you made the right choice, but you seem to have forgotten was that your parents were friends with my parents..so I wanted to thank you for having your parents call mine. Its ok, when my dad got off the phone he was just glad it was someone he was friends with and not some stranger. Good times, oh and I was standing there when you parents showed up. I only wish we had digital cameras then. I mean you guys only had 4 cases of beer and two fifths. Who was in the car with you, wasnt it Hood, Youngblood,Smith, ????. Damn Ike kids drink like fish
