John was a gentle giant; he was one of the kindest and most genuine people one could ever hope to know. John and Lora's strength, faith and courage throughout his 4 year battle will serve as an inspiration to us all.
As Brian said, I remember John being a gentle, easy going, extremely intelligent guy. I am sad I didn't find out about his health situation until it was too late.
Sometimes we fall into the thought that we can always catch up with each other sometime down the road. I was devastated to hear the news about John. Unfortunately I did not take the time to stay in touch with John and had no idea about his health situation. He was one of my best friends growing up, staying over night at each other's house, playing intellivision, cracking jokes, and so on. I truly regret not staying in touch and being a better friend beyond high school. May we all take this opportunity at the reunion to take the time to reconnect and strengthening friendships; both ones we had and maybe ones we never took time to develop. John, You will be sorely missed.
I agree with the other descriptions of John, and have to add that he was also one of the funniest people that I've ever known. He always had a smile on his face, and made those around him smile and laugh often. His strength (along with the strength of his wife, Lora)during his battle with cancer was amazing to me. I am a better person for having known him.
John, you are and will continue to be missed. I pray that you are now at peace, and imagine you and Mark together smiling down on all of us.
I just want to echo what Jeremy said. I too did not know that John even had these medical issues. The timing of his death is ironic because I was thinking about dropping him an e-mail through this site just days before I heard about his passing. John and I had a blast in various classes together. He and I were part of the group of SHS Spanish class students who went to Spain over spring break our junior year (or was it senior year?). Like Mindy said, he was extremely funny and sarcastic. He didn't take life too seriously and he will be greatly missed. R.I.P. John.
