School Story:
I look back and say the same things I always heard my older brothers and family members say - I wish I would have enjoyed high school more when I was there. High school for me was a blast. It was when I felt like I started to come into my own. I was not a good athlete in Jr High and wasn't even going to do sports until Jeff Kent talked me into running cross country (which I stunk at in Jr High) and turned out to be a decent runner. I loved running and wrestling and the whole high school process. I remember going to the State basketball finals only to lose to Anderson on a last seconed shot in overtime and then being so upset. Travis Theobald and I sold our tickets to Anderson fans for the evening session only to find out the Mayor (Travis' dad) was staying for the evening session and had to talk the hotel into letting us stay until the game was over. My second story was the night of the Senior Awards and scholarship banquet. My sister had just been through a life threatening medical ordeal and I was on the verge of not being able to go to college at all. I was so blessed that night in receiving scholarships and remeber sitting three seats in with Brian Alexander and Mark Williams sitting in the first two. They told me if I won one more award they were moving . Sure enough they called my name and after I received my award and turned around, everyone in the auditorium was laughing because Brian and Mark had moved in putting me on the outside seat!
I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to all the awesome classmates from good ol' Marion Elementary. Those years were a blast: Playing Men and Monsters, Dukes of Hazard on the swing sets with Duane Schuler (and his annual matchbox race at his house), field days, kickball, getting pinched by Mrs. Klink on your birthday, crushing on Trisha Carwein and Jill Cox, being best friends with John Walker and Chad German - the two fastest kids in school, and everything else.
