WALDO FUNERAL HOME

David Michael Coley

( December 27, 1949 - March 15, 2024 )

David Michael Coley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Dallas VA Medical Center. He was 74 years young.

David was born at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center in Sherman, TX on December 27, 1949, to Anthony “Tony" and Wanda Coley. Although born in Sherman, military orders to Kansas and Alaska couldn’t keep their family away, for they returned to Sherman in 1958.

David graduated from Sherman High School in 1968 and completed two years at Grayson County Jr College. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1971 and became a Data Systems Technician. After his honorable discharge in 1977, he worked for Motorola and ultimately retired in Slidell, LA as a Bridgemaster.

David’s military service and career required stateside and overseas travel, but in 2015 he eventually returned to his roots, in Sherman TX.

David’s hobbies included coin collecting, playing family card games, and being the jokester of the group, such as to say “make sure there are no typos on my headstone because that would be a grave mistake!” He and his wife would spend weekends antiquing at estate sales and auctions, always drawn to the most peculiar treasures. He was an avid animal lover. He could never say no to a stray animal when someone brought one home.

He also enjoyed coaching little league and soccer, along with being active in his children’s school and extra-curricular activities, but nothing gave him more joy than spending time with his family.

David is survived by his three children: daughter Kimberly Coley Thacker and husband Jimmy of San Diego, CA, and sons Mark Anthony Coley and wife Renae of Slidell, LA and Peter Coley of Sherman, TX. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Halee Searcy and husband Quinn, Sydney, Lily, Charlie, and Coco Thacker of San Diego, CA and Adelina, Lucas, and Santi Garcia of Slidell, LA, and 2 great-grandchildren Connor and Sofia Searcy of San Diego, CA.

David is also survived by his two siblings: brother Stephen W. Coley and wife Christine of Plano, TX and his sister Lorraine C. Hufford and husband David of Grand Prairie, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Laurie Coley.

A Celebration of Life will take place April 2, 2024, at Waldo Funeral Home at 10:00 am followed by interment with military honors at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
