Bettina Nelson (Walker)

Tina died on 12/7/2015.

Bettina E. Walker, of Sherman, passed away Sunday in Sherman at the age of 65.

Mrs. Walker was born April 3, 1950 to Joe Kenneth Nelson and Nina Faye Nelson in Sherman. She graduated in 1968 from the first integrated class in Sherman High School. She was one of the first black cheerleaders at the school for both black and white students. She attended Texas Women's University.

Mrs. Walker was a licensed beautician and owned and operated two shops in Sherman for about six years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nina Nelson.

She is survived by father, Joe Nelson, son, Kenneth Joe Walker (Jennifer), and grandchildren, Abigail Leigh Walker and Braylen Joe Walker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Johns CME, 300 E. College St., Sherman.

She willed her body to the medical center at UT Southwestern.

Arrangements are under the direction of James E. Smith of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Alstyne.

Flower arrangements can be sent to the church.
