Scarlett Lynn Ornelas(1950 - 2017)

ORNELAS, Scarlett Lynn Scarlett Lynn Ornelas passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2017, despite the heroic efforts and compassionate medical staff at Cancer Treatment Center of Goodyear, AZ in helping her battle Advanced Stage 4 Pancreatic, Colon and Liver Cancer since August of last year. Scarlett came into this world early being born a mere 2 lb., 6 oz in Albany, Georgia on May 1st, 1950 to Robbie Lynn Peterson and Leo D. Peterson. Her father, Leo, was an Air Force and professional pilot, so her early years were spent living in places from post-war Japan, Kansas and Louisiana to California, Arkansas and Texas. She was the oldest of three children, out-surviving her two younger brothers Eric and Kirk Peterson. After high school, grounded in her soulfully-inspired sense of adventure and storytelling, she honed her craft by graduating with a Bachelors of Arts from University of Arkansas in Little Rock, a Masters of Arts in Writing from Washington University in St. Louis and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society throughout. Her sense of stewardship to share her education and her limitless creative inspirations, drove her fill up her passport visiting over 30 countries around the world, be an English and Literary educator at half a dozen US Colleges and Universities, a peer-respected Oxfordian Shakespeare Researcher of the Stratford Society and author of multiple novels, poetry, journalism and works of fiction, before finally settling in North Texas as a Managing Coordinator of the Eiesman Arts Center and Senior Center for the city of Richardson, Texas. Moreover, she was always highly praised and respected by her colleagues, friends, and acquaint- ances, from her beginning to her end. Scarlett Lynn Ornelas is survived by her father retired USAF fighter pilot Major Leo D. Peterson, her husband retired MBA/Chemical Engineer Jaime B. Ornelas of Richardson, Texas, and her son Robert Craig David who works as a Retail Operations Manager/Trainer. Amongst her closest family members who morn her loss are Marilynn and Bill Andrews and their children of Columbus, Mississippi, and Eugene, Donna, and Kelly Knox, of Balch Springs, Texas, and Scottie Roy, Kathy, and Scott Sanders of Whitesboro, Texas. Also mourning this loss are lifelong friend since high school, Rhonda Sledge of Tampa and her children Reagan Dollar and Derrick Barwick. It is by request that any memorial offerings be limited to donations to the church in lieu of flowers, arrangements, etc. After the formal service, a "Celebration of Life" including thoughtful words shared by loved ones, food and refreshments, shall be held in a private room within the church for all those wishing to attend. The memorial service starts promptly at 10:30 AM sharp, Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 in St. Joseph Church, 600 South Jupiter Road, Richardson, Texas. 972-231-2951
