The summer after my first year at UT Austin, I worked as a surgical technician at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in surgery and the emergency room.  I was in the emergency room when Steve was brought in.  I believe it was an accident at a paving site that caused his injuries.  Incredibly he was awake and alert when he came in.  I told him who I was and he wanted me to hold his hand.  I did and told him everything would be okay.  He smiled and wanted me to keep holding his hand.  I do believe he passed away feeling a bit better that someone he knew was by his side.  It is a day I will never forget and that I frequently think of.  He was a good guy.

Thank you so very much, Dale, for sharing with us that you were with Steve when he died.  Steve was a dear, special young man; he taught me so much about myself and mortality at too early an age.  You have given me comfort through the sharing of your memories...May God bless you, as I have been asking God's deep and comforting blessings on Steve's family through the years.

Tracy
