SWANNANOA, N.C. - Travis Gilkeyson, 61, formerly of Silverton, Texas, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton with Elvin Norris officiating. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, Texas.

Mr. Gilkeyson was born Aug. 24, 1945, in La Salle County, Ill., to John Travis and Betty Thomas Gilkeyson. He was co-owner of Asheville East KOA Campground and a member of Black Mountain First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki; five children, John, Allan, Shane, Sarah and Rebecca; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Black Mountain First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 656, Black Mountain, NC 28711 or Swannanoa Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 177, Swannanoa, NC 28778.

Our Punkin...............who could ever forget Punkin............I never knew where that nickname came from!  I DO remember, though, the smile he always had on his face.  He just always seemed so happy!  It saddened me to learn he'd passed from this world because of such an awful disease, and at so young an age.  Would have liked for us to be able to meet his wife and children.
