Kathy Peugh Wellman
Kathleen P. Wellman, 50, Kansas City, MO, passed away August 22, 1997, at Columbia Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Park Lawn Chapel. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a living memorial at Grandview Assembly of God, 12400 Grandview Rd., Grandview MO 64030.
Mrs. Wellman was born May 27, 1947, in Tulia TX. She was a member of Grandview Assembly of God, and a member of its Praise and Worship Choir. She was past chairperson of the Belton-Raymore chapter of the Christian Women’s Club. Survivors include her husband Jim, children Cindy Nash and her husband Bob, Patricia Mincks and her husband Raymond, Jamie Wellman and Jonathan Wellman, two brothers, DeleathPeugh and Kenneth Peugh, sister Darla Millsap, Mother Doris Peugh and granddaughter Christiana Minks.

Kathy was a generous and unfailingly kind person. The first time I met her our mothers were using the laundromat in town. They tried to get Kathy and I to talk to each other. I do not think they were successful because I only remember us peeking at each other from behind our mothers' skirts. This meager beginning to our friendship failed to picture the richness of the next twelve years. For a shy girl with learning difficulties Kathy's friendship provided a daily refuge. On the playground she dived into my imaginary world with abandon. Kathy made every school activity a joy as she approached each one with light hearted excitement. She never bragged about her accomplishments but was always happy for mine. Some time before her death Kathy and her husband hosted me for a week while I took a sign language class in a collage in Overland Park. As we shared the joys and pains of our lost years and our hopes for the future I realized Kathy had grown into the strong, faithful, and fun friend the girl had foreshadowed. Thank you Kathy for being my friend.
