Melvin E. Hooper:Ricky graduated with the Class of 1968.   If you recall, that was the year the Draft Lottery was instituted where everyone 18 years and older were assigned a Lottery number tied in to your Social Security number and date of birth.   When the lottery numbers were announced in the Fall of 1968, Ricky was among the first group to be sent.   To my recollection speaking with his family members, Ricky was sent to the front line in the Vietnam War and was killed in action.   The Memorial to Military members and their families here in Monmouth County has him listed killed in action in 1971.

Ricky was killed in the Vietnam War. He loved football and was a nice respectful person. The storage building at the Franklin Football Field is dedicated in his name and memory.

Ricky was a dear friend of mine while at Franklin. He took the time to teach me some of the finer points of baseball which helped me qualify for the Franklin's Varsity Team. We hung out together. Along with Ronnie Williams, you always saw the three of us together.

Middletown NJ erected a stone wall monument at the Arts Center with the names of all men and women who lost their lives protecting our way of life. I visit it frequently and place flowers under Ricky's name. I'll never forget you, Ricky. I'll meet you again, my dear friend, in another place and another time.
