55th Reunion Information

It is 55 years since we roamed the halls and hostels of College together and faced that final Matriculation exam!

Prepare yourselves to reconnect and reminisce at the much anticipated event to mark this the 55th anniversary of 1969 the year we left those halls and hostels behind us.

When: 25 - 27 October 2014 (flexible)

Where: Misty Hills Country Hotel in Muldersdrift

You may ask, why this date and venue?

The responses from the questionnaire sent last year favoured a weekend in November. Unfortunately this is the busiest time of the year for venues of this nature so as a compromise we were able to secure the weekend as close to November as possible. Upon further consideration of the the criteria resulting from the responses to the questionnaire, we explored 10 venues and came up with the one which, in our opinion met the majority of them.

Misty Hills is nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Swartkop mountains on the threshold of the beautiful Kromdraai Valley in Muldersdrift. It exudes authentic African charm with a touch of luxury. Plus it is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Lanseria Airport making it relatively easily accessible for everybody.

Consider this, 195 stone-built thatched rooms and suites decorated with vibrant African fabrics and artwork providing the ideal infrastructure for catching up, sharing memories and laughing at the follies of our younger days. There is a choice of accommodation to suit every preference, from deluxe rooms to executive suites.

In addition to the spectacular accommodation, Misty Hills also offers numerous on-site activities, from the chance to indulge in spa treatments, quad biking adventures, picnics, archery, giant chess in the garden and much more that is availlable on-site. The hotel staff will also assist with organising other activities that are available off-site nearby. eg. Golf, cruises on the Hartebeespoort Dam, visit to nature reserves, the cradle of makind and many more. if you follow the link to the hotel website below, you will be able to see all the activities on offer.

Words do not do it justice, so to see more, click the following link to see a 3 minute video clip of the hotel and what it offers. More details about the program and pricing etc follow after the video.

The program

To accommodate varying schedules, there is an option of either a one-night or two-night stay (Fri 25th Oct or Sat ) with the main event in the form of a gala braai taking place on Saturday evening. Rather than organising a second event dinner, those opting for two nights are encouraged make their own dining arrangemnets  for the Friday evening at any of the superb restaurants available at Misty Hills, bearing in mind that the Carnivore Restuarant comes highly recomended. Obvioussly if you wish to spend more time exploring the area or just relaxing at the hotel, you can do so by booking more extra days directly with the hotel at the same rates as for the reunion weekend.

Day/Night 1 (Fri 25 Oct)

Casual Time to yourselves - Attendees will arrive in the afternoon and there will be no formal event organised apart from one of the hotel venues being earmarked as the place to meet old mates who have already arrived for a drink and a catch-up. As mentioned, you are encouraged to make your own dinner arrangements at any one of the restuarants at the hotel. This will give everyone a chance to meet casually with old mates and do their own thing. Perhaps some of you will arrange get-togethers with old mates in advance?

Day/Night 2 (Sat 26 Oct)

Today is an opportunity to continue the casual mingling started the night before. A casual light lunch taking the form of a picnic will be arranged for those who wish to partake. There will also be an opportunity to explore the area and possibly pursue some of the other activities available both on and off site. A game of golf can be organised at the nearby Ruimsig golf course or for that matter, any other activity that might take your fancy! Below there is a link to the hotel website where you will find some more details of the available activities.

On Saturday evening, the main reunion event taking the form of a gala braai (menu link below) will be held in the Elephant venue (link below) with a cash bar (but cash is not accepted - only credit cards!) and all the other necessary prerequisites for us to continue the fun and enjoy the banter and our time together.

Day 3 (Sun 27 Oct)

On sunday morning we will have a farewell breakfast together and then make our way home filled with the joy of seeing old friends and sharing memories together.
