2020 Update:
Yes, we did get married and live happily ever after.
I want a refund on 2020, I detected a virus and I want a New Year and it better be virus-free.
Fortunatley were are both healthy and safe. I still work (approximately) 40 hours week at Electronics Inc. I'm on Boards for South Bend Symphony, South Bend Museum of Art, South Bend Civic Theater, South Bend Alumni Association, and Purdue Club of Saint Joseph Valley. I'm still active with organizations involving metal fatigue: International Scientific Committee on Shot Peening, SAE Surface Enhancement Committee, Purdue Center for Surface Engineering and Enhancement.
The Pandemic has played havoc with the symphony and theater schedules.
Update: July 2022 Still working at Electronics Inc but looking into retirement. In Feb of 2024 I will have been at EI for 50 years, but I never got a promotion.
2023 Update: We survived another year and look forward to my 80th Birthday with twin brother Jim.
I'm still working (almost) full-time trying to understand the material properties of steel. It's a long story. We sell 3-4 million pieces of test strips each year and we strive to get consistent performance but that illudes us. I am working with Purdue University Center for Surface Engineering and Enhancement and hope to solve the problem by the end of 2023.
I still maintain the (7) websites for the South Bend schools. Jim scans the yearbook photos (over 100,000 so far), and I scan the newspapers. I recently received a batch of Riley Review to scan and upload. It takes about one hour to scan, run OCR and reduce the file size and then post to the website. As Snoopy once said "There better be a chocolate chip cookie at the end of the trail".

School Story

Upon arrival at Adams we were assigned homeroom LT-1, the Little Theater Casmier Swartz, the baseball coach, was our home room teacher (often not there). Our room served as lunch room for kids bringing sack lunches. Milk and ice cream was available from a small freezer. A juke box located in the Little Theater provided lunch time dance music. Since we were mid-term students we had the option to stay 4 ½ years, which I did. This allowed me to get extra math classes, actually 10 semesters since I took two classes one semester. I was president of math club my senior year. I took Physics my junior year and chemistry my senior year. This was usually done in the other sequence but it turned out to help me quite a bit as I then tested into Honors Chemistry when I applied at Purdue. The only other significant accomplishment I remember is the Little 500 bicycle race. Our home room team of me, my brother Jim, Dave Davis, Jack Beebe and Sam Dairyko only competed the last three years but we won first place each time.

John Shanley was my homeroom teacher at Lincoln and also science teacher. I remember him always being plesant and thorough. He was a great teacher and it wa interesting that he then followed us to John Adams.

Getting old is not for the timid. Just learned that my lifetime warranty expired at 80 years so I have to pay for the knee replacement planned for January 2024. Life is good. Still working almost full time. I will get my gold watch for 50 years at Electronics Inc in 2024 and plan a big celebration. Business is thriving and we continue to inovate new products for the shot peening marketplace. This is a metal improvement technology that helps prevent fatigue fracture. We have distributors in 20 counties and plan to add three more patents in 2024 bringing our total to 33 US patents. I'm reducing the number of boards that I serve on. The remains two are Mishawaka Troop Town, housing for veterans and South Bend Alumni Association (sponsor of this and 6 other web sites). I was recently inducted into the South Bend Hall of Fame for my work with the arts (Symphony, Civic Theater, Museum of Art) and the MTT. We are selling commemorative bricks to help funding. mishawakatrooptown.org
Four foundations have been prepared and two duplexes will be started in Spring of 2024. Housing for 6-12 months will get vets stable and ready for their next steps. The village is on Jefferson near Reggio's restaurant next to VFW post 360. You must know someone you can honor with a brick Please check it out.

Bill, WOW. I guess I really didn't know you had such a prolific background. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. You and Bill Butler, Hal Brueseke were quite the team. My brother Jim also got his ham radio license but I never went down that path. Hope your birthday is enjoyable and that you get all the cake you can handle.

Happy birthday. Glad to read your story about Latin. I enjoyed learning from Ms K while at Adams. It helped me a lot as I pursued engineering at Purdue. You should be congratulated on your efforts to share language skills. Thank you.
