When we were in Jr. High, Stuart used to walk around with a book. We weren't friends then. He was way too cool for me and I couldn't get close enough to even see what he was reading, but I knew he read and thought that was cool. He didn't go to high school with us because his folks moved back east for a few years. Stuart had issues and they put him in a place called House of the Living but he called it House of the Living Dead. He kept in touch with his friends, many of whom I knew, so I heard the stories. His sister Katy became a close friend and I used to talk to her and Stuart's mom about what he was like as a kid. She told me that she knew from the time he was a baby that something was different about him. He was a troubled kid and he grew into a troubled man. He lost his mind on drugs one night and got arrested, ending up in jail for a while. He could never get it together and ended up overdosing on drugs. We eventually did become friends but I didn't have a crush on him anymore. I wish things could have been different for him because he was a very special person. It goes to show you that drugs have the capacity to take anyone over the edge if you go too far. When I get photos from Katy, I will send them to Bruce to post. I know a lot of you will have your own memories of Stuart. Please post them so we can all remember him.

I remember Stuart always coming over and hanging out at my house, but not to see me. He came to visit my dad. My dad and Stuart were really good friends. They would sit and watch TV without me even being there. Stuart took me surfing when I was 13 and I almost drowned. I was a 90 pound wet rat. I had my first prime rib at his house. It was nothing like the beans I got at my house. His little sister Lindsley called us hoodlums. We always teased her back. We also loved Stuart's mother's liquor cabinet, especially her vodka collection. We would replenish the bottles with water. His mom always knew what was up. I especially enjoyed spending the night there because his older sister Katy always had her hot girlfriends over. We liked that. Stuart always had a really good sense of humor and we did a lot of laughing. He was another friend who left the planet too soon.
