Oddly, I've had only two postal towns my whole life. SSP and Madison, Wis. Came to Madison for college in 1989 and never left. Many apartments across the town and been in the same house here for 23 or so years. I guess our cabin in Mauston, Wis., gives another address ... but an escape, not a home.
Something with writing, for sure.
Nothing with math, for sure.
Except for a brief period of hell in the rental car world, I went from an internship to a job at a small lobbying firm. It was a crazy, massively educational experience where I learned to hate politics. I followed my boss from there to a position at the Wisconsin Medical Society where I eventually served as Webmaster. In an odd way, I worked myself out of a job there, but it was OK and led to the great, much more challenging and better paying position I am in now. Since the last reunion, I've moved into management in the same area at the same company.
Boy meets Madison.
I hit the ground running at the UW and had a FABULOUS time with the Typical Madison College Experience (read: drank lots of beer). I earned a Journalism degree with a public relations focus.
My junior year, I met Lisa and we've been together ever since. I graduated in 1993 and we we were married the summer of 1994.
Apartment.
Jobs (detailed above).
House.
Kids.
Dog. (Another dog.)
Purchased 20 acres of land and a cabin in the hilly, trout stream laden "driftless area" of southwestern Wisconsin. Hunting, fishing, hiking and just hanging out... we love it there.
Now empty nesters.
My parents are still in the same, large, stair-riddled house.
A few times a year.
Ken Athmann with fair regularity, and occasional flurries of email with Paul Pavlak.
Sad to be missing the 30 year reunion, but would've been happy to see one and all.
I was Andy from elementary school on into early high school, after which I became Drew, which I go by to this day. I guess names like "Lurch" and "Stretch" were thrown my way on occasion.
To be honest, high school is quite a blur and feels almost like it happened to somebody else. I don't think I was quite myself in high school... never really stepped into my persona and self until I hit the dorms in Madison, really.
Many great moments flit to the fore, but to wrap the question up I'll go ahead and say the experience of starting on the basketball team my senior year was an awesome experience. I was a pretty awful athlete the years prior, but my height kept me in it long enough for me to aquire a modicum of coordination.
Another hrrrrrrmmmm... kinda question. I'll just spitball a few things that come to mind...
I've caught numerous muskies with a fly rod, the largest measuring 42 inches. Spend many days each fall in mad -- mostly fruitless -- pursuit.
Those who saw me in woodshop would be stunned to know that I have an extensive shop of my own now and am quite the woodworker.
I rowed on the crew team at Madison my freshman year and medaled in an NCAA regatta (shoulder problems kept me from staying with it).
I'm an officer in Trout Unlimited.
For a few years, I was one of the worlds most prominent players/thinkers on the A Game of Thrones card game, and met George RR Martin several times.
Maui, I think. Traveling to London in a month, but Maui must be further.
No. I found myself increasingly unhappy on social media and so stepped away.
