Michael Donald MUNSTEDT(10/29/1948 - 07/07/2013)
MUNSTEDT, Michael Donald From our loving arms to God's, our sweet husband, father, son, papa, true friend and man of God passed away from ALS on Sunday July 7th 2013. Michael Donald Munstedt, a lifelong resident of Spokane, WA was born on October 29th 1948. Michael was the first son of Donald Arthur and Eunice Ethel Munstedt. He graduated from Ferris High school in 1967, and later in 1971 from Spokane Community College with a degree in electronics engineering. He joined the US Navy in November of 1971 serving on the USS Midway during the Vietnam War. Michael proudly continued his service in the Naval Reserves until his retirement in 1995. He married his first wife in 1973 having two children, Shawn Michael in 1976, and Mariah Lynn in 1979. In 1995 Michael met the love of his life, Paulette, and later married on June 12th, 1996. Mike and Paulette had just recently celebrated 16 wonderful years of marriage. Michael joyfully gained two more children on that day, Chad and Zachary Seyl.
He worked for School District #81 as head custodian at both Cooper Elementary School, and later at Ferris High School. Michael worked hard, and took great pride in the work he did. After 37 years of service he retired in October of 2010, choosing to spend time with his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and wonderful friends. He also enjoyed traveling, and creating wonderful memories with family, and friends. Michael was diagnosed in December 2010 with ALS fighting a courageous, silent battle with grace and amazing positivity. His amazing love showed in his radiant smile, and his zest for life impacted everyone he touched. He was a humble and unassuming man but his personality was larger than life. Michael was also kind and gentle, displayed by his willingness to help all in need. He lived everyday to the fullest enjoying traveling with his wife Paulette. Michael also loved playing with his grandchildren whom were a constant joy to him. He was the finest husband and father a family could ask for loving us unconditionally. We are heartbroken for the loss of such a wonderful man, but know he is in Heaven watching over us as our ever protective and faithful guardian angel. We love you so.
A memorial celebration of Michael's life and faith will be on Saturday, July 20th, 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 318 South Cedar Spokane, WA. A reception will follow where we will enjoy all of Michael's favorite foods, sharing wonderful memories of his life. We welcome all who knew and loved him to attend honor his life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to ALSSO which provides support, encouragement, and many services to ALS patients, families and caregivers. We thank them for their support of our family in our journey with ALS. ALSSO, An ALS Service Organization, PO Box 48177, Spokane WA 99288-1177

Mike just passed away in the past week. Before retiring was the head custodian at Ferris. Although a bit shy at times Mike truly was one of the really nice people in the world. - submitted by Curly Rousseau
