BILL JONAS November 2, 1948 - February 22, 2011

William Paul Jonas "Bill" 62 years, honorable man and beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend died peacefully in the arms of his family, surrounded by friends February 22, 2011 after electing to stop dialysis secondary to complications in his health. Bill was encompassed by scores of friends and family the last week of his journey as he and they celebrated the grace of God and the blessings of Bill’s life. Bill reported that the closer he got to heaven the more he realized the glory and righteousness of God and his own unworthiness apart for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. His farewell to those he loved was a hopeful "See you later" verses "goodbye" as he encouraged those who had not trusted Jesus as Savior to consider Him.

Bill was born in Marseille, France, the youngest of ten children. After the war some of his older siblings came to the United States. When Bill contracted polio and it was realized he could receive better treatment in the US, Bill’s parents and remaining siblings followed in 1955. Eventually, they settled on the South Hill in Spokane where Bill would enjoy great times with friends and graduate from Ferris High in 1967. He attended NIJC and U of I, before getting a job with GTE in 1974.

He married Ann Marie Jensen May 24th 1975. In 1980, this young father of Rachel and Ben transferred as an engineer to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. During the next 10 years, Bill and Ann adopted their son Caleb, and Jordan completed their family in 1983. The years in Illinois were filled with special people and fun memories, but there was always a draw to return to Idaho.

In 1990, Bill accepted a position with Telect in the Spokane Valley as product manager/engineer. Bill’s work career ended early because of declining health. He and Ann bought Ann’s parents farmhouse to begin what was their third major remodel. They always worked well as a team. Bill jokingly said, "I haven’t taught Ann to weld and she hasn’t taught me to sew so we still need each other."

Bill’s joy was his family. He selflessly served them all the days of his life with deep satisfaction. He will be greatly missed. Because of the celebration of Bill’s life during the last week, the family has elected not to have a memorial service. Pictures of these amazing days can be viewed at racheljonas.wordpress.com "Thanks for enduring hardships with joy, and for facing death with hope. Now you are free…" –Jordan Jonas Please sign Bill’s online guest book.
