VOGT, Sharon Diane (Age 65) Was born July 23, 1943 in Spokane, WA. She peacefully passed away in her sleep on January 14th, at the Hospice House in Spokane due to an unexpected recurrence of breast cancer. She bravely battled her illness with grace and independence these past couple of months. To her friends, Sharon was known to be accepting, loyal, wise, generous, outspoken and quick-witted. To her children, Kim and Lance, she was a loving and devoted mother who made daily living an adventure. She enjoyed exposing them to the arts, travel, literature, international cuisine, and the great outdoors. She was intuitive and found ways to offer wisdom with great insight along with the belief that her children would successfully find their own way. Sharon loved being a grandmother to her three grandchildren, Marcus (10), Mason (8) and Ava Margeaux (6). She enjoyed painting watercolor pictures for them and treasured their trip to Victoria in 2005 where she had many escapades centered around fun and learning. To her parents, Bill and Betty Vogt, who both passed away in the summer of 2005, she was a dedicated and patient caregiver for over ten years. Her parents raised her to enjoy the many wonders of the Spokane area including hunting, fishing, and camping. Sharon was accomplished in both ballet and modern jazz throughout her childhood and was selected to be Miss Spokane Valley Junior Miss in 1960. She graduated from Central Valley High school in 1961 and received a B. A. in English from Washington State University where she also worked on a Masters degree in American literature. After graduating she taught at Rogers and Ferris High Schools in Spokane and later worked for the State of Washington as a social worker and was successful in assisting developmentally disabled individuals find employment. Sharon loved to fly and obtained her pilots license in her twenties. We are thankful to have had 37 amazing bonus years with her after she miraculously survived a near fatal small plane crash over Northern Washington while working with DSHS staff in November of 1972. Despite suffering a broken leg, she courageously led the pilot along with two seriously wounded and hypothermic men miles through deep snow to discover a rangers station where they were rescued. After that ordeal she chose to fly only when necessary and avoided small planes. Sharon also loved animals and took great pride in her dogs, Babe and then Rona. She was a member of the Spokane Valley Dog Club along with the Watercolor Artists Society of Coeur d'Alene and the Interplayers theatre group. Published on 1/25/2009
