Funeral for Anne Sylvia (Henderson) Anderson, 62, will be at 10 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anderson, who was born in Sacramento, Calif., died Friday. She was a 42-year resident of Spokane.

She attended Finch and Jefferson elementary schools and was a 1958 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School. She attended Eastern Washington University.

Mrs. Anderson was chosen to be a Lilac Princess during her senior year of high school and was named Miss Spokane and Miss Washington in 1958, the first winner from Spokane. She went on to place 14th in the Miss America Pageant.

After her time as a contestant she moved to San Francisco and launched a successful modeling career. In 1961 she was named National Wine Queen. She married Ted Anderson that same year. Mrs. Anderson lived in Sacramento, New York, New Orleans and Houston. She divorced in 1976 and moved back to Spokane, where she worked as a store model at The Crescent.

She later worked for Ferris High School for 10 years and in 1989 started work as a receptionist and secretary to the music director of the Spokane Symphony, a position she held until her death.

Mrs. Anderson was involved in restarting the Miss Spokane Scholarship Program in 1989 after a 25-year hiatus. She was active in the "Ham on Regal" productions at Ferris and was involved with the Spokane Symphony Associates.

Survivors include her former husband, Ted; two sons, Jeff Anderson of Tucson, Ariz., and Steve Anderson of Seattle; a daughter, Kristen Powell of Spokane; her mother, Virginia Henderson of Spokane; a brother, Jim Henderson of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society.

There is too much too write. She has a chapter in the Miss Spokane Book by Tony and Suzanne Bamonte. It starts on page 270 under her maiden name Anne Henderson as she was Miss Spokane 1958. She went on to win Miss Washington and compete in the Miss America pageant that year.
