Mike Sweeney

 

Mike Sweeney died at the age of 31 at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on March 31, 1995 of complications from non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

After graduating from Ferris, he attended Spokane Falls Community College for two years. He moved to Los Angeles in 1986, where he worked as an office manager at the Groundling Theater in Los Angeles. He was very close to his sister Julia Sweeney of "Saturday Night Live" fame, who took care of him when he became sick. Julia was diagnosed with cancer six months after Mike and talks about this experience and her last days with him in her one-woman stage act "God Said, 'Ha!' " which you can listen to online.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Jeri Sweeney of Spokane; two brothers, William Sweeney of Spokane, and James Sweeney of Los Angeles; two sisters, Julia Sweeney of Los Angeles, and Meg Sweeney of Japan, and his grandmother, Marie Ivers of Yakima.
