Lois "Beth" Werner (Johnson)

Betty, her nickname, and I were painfully shy in grade school. We had a lot in common. She was overweight and I grew to be 6' 1" tall in high school. As a result of being schooled in an area of children that had high income professional parents, we were alienated from most of the children that did not accept anyone who was different from themselves. Whether it was the wealth and status of their families or just plain ignorance of how to treat those who are different from them, it made a lasting impression on both of our lives. She and I hung out together because there were few others that would befriend us.

In high school we each went our separate ways and unfortunately lost touch. The last time I saw her was after I was married and we just happened to meet at Shadle pool. I was saddened to see that as an adult she was still very shy and withdrawn. I feel very badly that she was so mistreated during her youth and the effect that it had upon her childhood and adulthood. I remember her with great affection and I know she is receiving the love now that she so justly deserved throughout her youth. God Bless you and Peace for you, Betty
